Aspen Extreme

Aspen Extreme.  You've seen the movie.  You know u wanna "live the dream" just like T.J. Burke and Dexter Rutecki (a blessed memory).  You definitely wanna bang a super-rich cougar with a killa pad up on Red Mountain (with an indoor pool, over near the Maroon Bells??).  YEP!!   Its all right here in Aspen.

T.I.A.  Detroit---thaz history.

Last night we re-lived the Hollywood version of our real life.  ASPEN EXTREME celebrated its 15th Anniversary with a fund raiser for AVSC@ the Wheeler Opera House.  There were stars and bars and velvet ropes everywhere. It all started with a VIP reception at the new LIMELIGHT LODGE(great event space), followed by a Q & A with the Hollywood folks and then a rowdy showing of the "cult classic" film.  The 90's themed after-party at Cantina was a surreal mixture of fact and fiction as the gloves were dropped and the tequila flowed like beer, which flowed like wine, which flowed like water.  Whatever? It got wild and it was BIG fun, all for AVSC.

Aspen Art Scene

Massimiliano Gioni and Heidi Z Jacobson @ AAM.Art is everywhere.  In Aspen, art is especially accessible.  We take advantage of The Aspen Art Museum, it's a big-city resource in our little mountain town.  We recently attended a lecture/ slide show given by super-hot curator, Massimiliano Gioni from The New Museum and The Wrong Gallery in NYC.  WOW he showed off some crazy photos of his special exhibitions from around the world.  Most of his stuff is wildly collaborative performance art and very grassroots.  We found Gioni's rap to be fascinating.

In fact, after the lecture we sought out some of Aspen's local artists.  There's plenty of accessible art right here in the valley:  Each of these Aspen artists is google-able---check it out.

Aspen HALL of FAME 2009

The Class of 2009 of The Aspen Hall of Fame was inducted recently at a posh banquet held at the Aspen Institute. Community stalwarts MARIAN DAVIS and MEAD METCALFwere honored by the Hall of Fame for their significant and lasting impact on the Aspen/Snowmass community: economically, physically, spiritually and intellectually.  Like all the preceding HOF inductees, Davis and Metcalf have made major contributions to Aspen's cultural landscape.  They joined previously honored Aspen legends such as Freidl Pfeifer, Walter and Elizabeth Paepcke and Klaus Obermeyer and many more--- as HALL of FAMERS.

Marian Lyeth Davis: Aspen HOF 2009Marian Davis migrated from her life as a Houston debutante and socialite more than 5 decades ago.  She was instrumental in founding Aspen's Christ Episcopal Church in the West End.  She has always been a tireless supporter (and a life trustee) of the Aspen Music Festival and School.  Marian was the first honorary trustee of Les Dames d' Aspen and she's on the National council of The Aspen Art Museum among countless other philanthropic activities in the Roaring Fork Valley.Mead & Diane Metcalf: Aspen HOF 2009

Mead Metcalf is the founder and the heart and soul of the famous CRYSTAL PALACE dinner theatre, an Aspen institution for 51 years.  Metcalf, a graduate of Dartmouth College and a WWII vet came to Aspen in the late 50's to ski and play the piano.  His love of entertaining evolved into the most successful entertainment venue in Aspen.  The popular musical review provided political commentary and satire for generations of Aspen visitors and locals, plus it provided employment for many talented ski bums.  Metcalf participated and contributed to many vital causes in Aspen, always willing to pitch in.  He now lives on a golf course in Crested Butte.HOF member Mary Eshbaugh Hayes & socialite Merrill Ford
