March Madness

Hard Core Partying. click 4 pixMarch in Aspen is "showtime".  All the playas show up in March for their fun in the sun.  The average age of the town rises to "over 70", and the Cougars become even more predatory.  Celebs, parties, booze, chicks, beautiful weather---who could ask for anything more. Everyone @ A-Spin was workin' it hard this weekend.

See the pix: Working 4 the Weekend.

We ran into California Govenator Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was in Aspen for a $5000 a pop cocktail party/fundraiser and a couple of ski days.  We had a chance to snap a pic.--but he gave us the old  "I'll be back" routine, right before his security guys formed a human shield around him.   As they skied away he shouted "let's paaaarty".   A-rod was in town re-habbing his surgically repaired hip.  His rap--"no pix, please".  NASCAR champ Jimmie Johnson and his racing buddies however were very cool. It was a busy weekend in party town. See the pix.

William Davidson / R.I.P.

William Davidson 1922-2009

Mr. D. was soft spoken, but he always carried a big stick.  He was a businessman, a family man, a philanthropist, an NBA/ WNBA/ NHL owner, a champion and a Hall of Famer.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Rest in Peace, Mr. D. Bill Davidson #1.

William Davidson. Can you dig it?

Shining Stars / Aspen Winter Games

The 2009 Aspen Winter Games are upon us.

Sponsored by the Shining Stars Foundation, the games are taking place March 13-20th @ Buttermilk and the Inn at Aspen. Shining Stars brings children with cancer and other life threatening diseases to Aspen to "live it up".  They leave their hospital beds behind them for a few days and Go BIG.  The kids get to ski and board, party, dine, disco dance, create art and more. They meet & hang with other children who have similar health circumstances and they get to experience "everything" for a week in Aspen.

It's more than a vacation for these troopers, it can be a "life changing experience". During their week in Aspen, the kids focus on what they "can do" not what they can't do. They gain strength from each other and their accomplishments, and they "go for it".  Each child is given a customized plan for their own participation, under the supervision of Shining Stars medical team.  You can contribute and participate- Click: SHINING STARS FOUNDATION

These kids get after it---both on the slopes and off.  BALD is BEAUTIFUL.

Siiiiiiick POW / Local Motion

The Deep: Click 4 Full Size. Photo Jeremy Swanson / Aspen Ski Co.Everybody keeps askin' us, "what about the skiing"? "Why all the fashion and celeb. stuff"?  Word up, haters, it hasn't snowed in a month--- UNTIL TODAY.

By our measure it was 12" -15" of moist, soft POW POW. The huge bumps that have emerged in the past few weeks were filled in.   Sure it was hard as a rock underneath--but everybody was chargin' it BIG TIME anyway. There was a lot of pent up ski-hab going on in Aspen today.  AspenSpin.com was in line at 8.30 a.m., and ---bruddah---it was worth it.

We've been covering a lot of excellent local events.  Aspen, for a little ski town @ the end of the road,  has a large number of diverse cultural activities and opportunities and lots of talented people. See The Red Brick, Grassroots TV, Aspen Poets, LivAspenArt and more.

7th Avenue Freeze-Out

New York? Paris? Milan? They all have their fashion weeks, true that. What they don't have is the gorgeous Rocky Mountains, sweeeeeet powder snow, 3,267 verts and Aspen, Colorado's singular style.

Aspen Fashion Week (AFW) kicked off its inaugural season with a HUGE bang this week.  The whole town was glam-o-rama --- to the max.

Fashionistas abounded and models were everywhere, and we loved it. The AFW style squad: Lisa Johnson, Oliver Sharpe and Frances Gregos created a new and exciting series of fashion events, right here in Aspen. Resources such as Fendi, Obermeyer, Gabriel, Ed Hardy Snow, Rossignol, Isaora and more showed off their "stylie" lines for next season. The schedule was filled with parties, fashion shows, events, open bars etc, etc. Did we mention the models---it was awesome, we liiikeeeeee. Don't miss the pix of our new pal, haute couture fashion icon, Valentino (scroll down).  He was in Aspen in conjunction with AFW to host a "sneak peak" of the new documentary film Valentino: The Last Emperor. It doesn't get more fabulous than that.

We need to thank AspenSpin.com's own fashion sponsors KJUS, CLOUDVEIL and IBEX. These outdoor oriented fashion brands will surely make a splash at next Winter's Aspen Fashion Week. Mark it on the calendar boyz, bring the heat to Aspen, ....and bring the models too.
