Aspen Skiers Football

#2 Olathe vs. #7 Aspen. Coin Toss.TailBack Nicky Ufkes #26 takes it to the house on Aspen's first drive. The Aspen Skiers Football team took high hopes and their glossy 5-1 record into THE BIG GAME against Olathe last night.  Olathe, the defending State Champions (2A) came into Aspen unblemished @ 6-0 and riding a 20 game unbeaten string. Olathe controlled the action taking home their 21st straight victory, 52-26.  In what could have been an instant classic, it was the Denver Post 2A game of the week, pitting #2 Olathe Pirates vs #7 Aspen Skiers.

The under-sized Aspen Skiers started hot, picking up an Olathe fumble on the first play from scrimmage.  The Skiers impressively drove the ball to the house after picking up a crucial 1st down on a 4th and 5.  Star tailback Nicky Ufkes #26 ran the ball well and piled up 226 yards and 2 TDs.  QB Anderson Cole threw for one TD and ran for another.   In the end, the Pirates possesed the size, speed and experience to prevail.

AspenSpin respects authorityOur thanks to the Aspen Skiers Football Program and coaches Peshek, Fentress, Altman and Johnson for allowing AspenSpin.com to get inside the huddle.  The Skiers are MOBILE, AGILE and HOSTILE under Head Coach Mike Sirko and they still have 3 games to play before STATES.  See 'em roll at home on NOV. 6,  Aspen vs Coal Ridge.

Aspen's own Olympic hero Chris Klug was on hand to promote organ donor awareness, through Donor Dudes.  The Aspen High School Football Program dedicted the game to DONOR DUDES, part of the Chris Klug Foundation.  Klug, is in top shape because he will compete this Dec/Jan. to earn a slot on the U. S Olympic Snowboarding Team for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.

Despite the loss, it was a great night for Football in Aspen.

Chris Klug, Missy Klug and the Donor Dudes raised awareness for Organ Donorship at the Aspen High School Football game. The Skiers dedicated the game to Donor Dudes.
