The Transition

It all starts today!!!  Aspen transforms from a sleepy little Rocky Mountain ski town to the #1 party spot on earth.  Everyone is coming in, are you ready?  The "hot" outfit quotient on Ajax has gone up a notch the past few days.  By Saturday, it'll be like Bryant Park during fashion week.

What are the Hot trends?---you still have time to buy.  SNOW WHITE---the brighter, the better, appears to be the "color of the year".  Fur collared down ski parkas are all the rage----if you want to be "in" you need to get one ASAP.   KJUS, the Norwegian ski line favored by Forbes 400 members is making quite a splash for it's technical quality and stylish cuts.  Colors to avoid---bumble bee yellow---never a good option, and last year's green (see pictures).

We've heard St.Bart's is nice this time of year. Antigua's hip.  We had a villa booked at Caneel Bay, but Puffy's boat left us in the wake.  So we're stuck here in A-Town.  wee wee weee.  You too, can still get in for New Year's.  A 2br, 2 bath will set you back about $ 5K per night.  Give A-Spin a buzzzzzzz, we'll hook you up.

Our sources are telling us that the sub-prime mess has luckily had little or no affect on Aspen's holiday bookings.  Now that Morgan Stanley is selling a stake to the Chinese and Citi is in tight with the boyz from Dubai---all is well.

Serious Business

Today's hottest news story? -----Britney Spears' 16 year old sister, Jamie Lynn announced that she's pregnant.  Is that really news?   Nope--not even on Aspen Spin.
Amanda, Leah and Kasie take to the stage to discuss their progress and goals.

We have a much more important situation brewing right here in Aspen.  Three incredibly strong, pretty, young, local women are fighting the battle of a lifetime.   Amanda Boxtel, Leah Rowland and Kasie Burtard were all seriously injured in accidents.  Amanda and Leah were hurt while skiing and Kasie's life was altered by a car crash.  Now they are fighting back, and they want to walk again.  All three are willing to do whatever it takes to regain the use of their legs.   The Stem Cell treatment that will help these ladies recover the use of their limbs is not legal in America.   Amanda has already been to India to receive her first Stem Cell treatment and her progress has been remarkable.  Leah and Kassie want it bad.  They need to raise about $80,000 each to get the treatments they need.

Last night, the Aspen Club dedicated their 30th Anniversary Celebration, to these three Amigas.  More than 600 people attended the event which was staged to raise money and awareness for the Stem Cell procedures that these women need.

Grand Prize, a seat at the WSOP.While the party was rockin' with food and drinks, a band and a poker tourney----- it was hard to avoid getting emotionally involved with the three partially incapacitated guests of honor.   Amanda's stated goals are simple,  she just wants to "feel fresh cut grass under her feet", and  "slow dance, heart to heart" with her boyfriend.   Leah has a more adventurous goal, " I want to hike up the mountain again" she admitted to the crowd.   There is hope for these women!!!

More than 100 silent auction items were "bid up" by the highly spirited crowd.  A beautiful Golden Retreiver puppy went for more than $13,000 during the live auction.  The goal of raising $240,000 to help these girls go to India to get their treatment is realistic.   You can help too --- click onto www.AspenClub.com to get more info about how you can help each of these fine ladies make their dream a reality.

Gimme Yoga!!! The bedazzling Courtney Smith and cutie Kerri Bengs brightened up the room with their smiles. Courtney is one of the top Yoga pros in town.

Pump it Up

Don't forget, December 18, 2007 ---- that's tomorrow-------The Aspen Club will be celebrating their 30th Anniversary.   Michael Fox, Casey McConnell, Robert Cypher and the rest of team at The Aspen Club  are planning a major soiree to celebrate 3 decades of fitness, health and dirty towels in Aspen.   Doors open at 7 pm.

The best part is, you don't have to be a member of the posh Aspen Club to attend----it's free and open to the public.  It should be wild!!!  If you like an open Bar, tons of food from Garnish, and plenty of hard bodies then you should put this one in your date book.  Aspen Spin has put you on the VIP list----so you're in.

The final table of the huge charity Texas Hold 'em  tourney that started yesterday at Jimmy's will be played out during the Party.  The tournament is raising money and awareness for stem cell research, and the first prize is a $10,000 entry into the World Series of Poker.  Not bad!!.

Please  factor in the fact that Aspen Spin's staff has hit every POW day for the past 5+ years, ------ if that doesn't give us some sort street cred around here-----than what does?  Also, if you have access to a  jet, one question----why aren't you on it.  GET HERE NOW!!!

We're backing up on the events.   2 or three every night.       

The opening of the Karen Kilimnik installation at AAM was spectacular.  The exhibit is a must see--through 2/3/08.   We especially liked THE FOLLY, a multi-media sculpture and The RED ROOM.  As featured previously on A-Spin, in YOU GOTTA have ART, Ms. Kilimnik's work is showcased on Aspen's  2007/2008 lift ticket.  

The Kilimnik exhibition debuted at The Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) at the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, the artist's home town.  It's also been to Miami and will be showing at MCA Chicago following it's Aspen run.  Aspen Spin likes to "experience" our Art and we find the opportunity to meet and interact with artistic talent that visits Aspen to be quite stimulating.  It helps us to "translate" the work.  Ms. Kilimnik's portraiture and command of oil is astounding.  We highly recommend the exhibit,  bring your lift ticket---save 50% on admission.

Since the BOO BOO club has threatened Aspen Spin with legal action, we won't even mention the Grand Marnier / Men's Journal event called Taste of the Slopes.   Oooop's.    It was killer.   Chef Miles Angelo laid out a sit down feast for 100.  Lamb, duck, lobster, you know the drill.   Grand Marnier hosted a ---"semi" open bar.  "Have any thing you want as long as it's Grand" their rep from NYC announced.   Can you mix Grand w/ tequilla? 

We don't mean to pick on the Famous BOO BOO, but  pull-Leeeese, please get some new tunes in there.   If we see one more dinosaur dancing to---- Beat it --------with a hot 35 year old woman, we're gonna BARF!!
