Tonight we managed to get behind the velvet rope at Dennis Basso FreeStyle 2009. Freestyle is the annual fundraising event for the Aspen Art Museum (AAM). Everybody was there. The après ski event was over the top,as always, and Aspen's Art patrons came from near and far to celebrate the season and out bid their friends.

Decadent drinks and hors d'oeuvres, unparalleled auction items and a super sick fur fashion show brought the SRO crowd to their feet.  Hundreds of thousands of dollars was raised for AAM, as the "see and be seen crowd" was spurred on by celebrity auctioneer Simon de Pury.

Freestyle is one of the best events of the Holiday season in Aspen. The 45 minutes of Chaos refers to the onslaught of socialites jockeying for position on the red carpet and at the "turn and repeat" photo station.  No one wants to be to early....or to late, so the months and months of planning comes down to 45 minutes of Chaos.  A-Spin managed to drop the gore-tex and slip into an Armani suit in order to get all the money $hots.  The pix say it all.

Aspen X-mas on FIRE

Snow Polo in AspenAfter a pretty quiet off-season,  Aspen is on fire for Christmas.  Hot, Hot, Hot. Today traditionally starts the decadence that we've come to expect.

Observations: from AspenSpin.

The mood is more upbeat than last year, but still muted compared to the peak, 2007.

People are getting crazier.

People like to list their residences in response to the opener-- "where u from"?  Chicago, Paris and ....Aspen. London, Dubai and ....Aspen.  New York, Palm Beach and.....Aspen.  LA, Cabo and....Aspen.  Pittsburg, Tampa ....and Aspen.---(all real responses). Remember people, time-shares don't count as a residence.

Texting on skis is not safe, especially  on icy hard-pack.  Texting in the middle of the mouse trap near lift 3 (Ajax Express) or tortilla flats where Spar meets Copper, or on Little Nell, below the berm is not smart.

Chicken Noodle soup replaced  Curry/ Coconut at Sundeck ----no brainer. Adding more chairs at Sundeck, no brainer.  More mats at the base of the Gondy--on the super-slippery concrete--WOULD be a no brainer---PLEASE!.

People are drinking more----and they like JOKA Vodka.

Charlie Sheen and his wife will work it out. (inside info).

Il Mulino is the new "it spot".  The place is raging.  Today, people were eating lunch outside---in like 10 degree temps.  They've got it going on.

Charlie Sheen in Jail --in Aspen.

Christmas in Aspen is always crazy.  TV actor Charlie Sheen was arrested in Aspen....on Christmas morning?  An early morning 9-1-1 call resulted in assault charges, and Sheen getting run in by Pitkin County's finest.  Rumors are flying , but allegedly there was some sort of domestic dispute that included menacing, etc.  No word on his release.  See the NY Daily News blurb. http://bit.ly/SheenJail

A-Spin was tenatively scheduled to meet up with Sheen tomorrow. Guess thats on hold now. We just saw Sheen's spot 4 Hanes.  Guess thats on hold too.  Initial hearing scheduled for Feb. 8-- now that'll make some good reality TV.

Whats the real story?  Maybe we'll find out.

Everyone has their own relationship with Aspen, their own"Aspen Idea". MIND, BODY, SPIRIT.  Aspen is a beautiful, magical place, a ski town with roots in mining.  Secrets of Aspen will show that 'gold-digging'  is a full-contact sport in Aspen --and compares it to the world's oldest profession.  Secrets of Aspen is clearly not a true depiction of Aspen, it will show a small, vapid and superficial facet of our "life-style".  Based on the 4 minute trailer we viewed on Facebook, we're concerned that the "actors" and Aspen will ultimately be embarrassed.  It looks dirty, like you need a shower, dirty.

FULL DISCLOSURE: We attended a few of the the VH1 events. Two house parties last January---(click REALITY BITES for a re-cap) and we "sneaked" into Brooke's 25th Birthday bash where a cake fight "spontaneously" broke out and hilarity ensued. We also crashed The SEXY SINGLES AUCTION (stay classy, The Little Nell and The Buddy Program).  A-Spin did not sign a waiver or release form, nor did we eat or drink anything at these scripted events for fear of the "roofie effect".  Its true, we have a face "made for blogging" so we avoided the cameras and the big time, beanie wearing, walkie talkie carryin' folks from High Noon and VH1 who produced secrets of Aspen.
